Strategies for dating a navy guy. KillarneyRose and I also have previously talked about it…

KillarneyRose and I also have previously talked about that, but i decided to begin a thread.

We came across a totally wonderful man this weekend at a marriage (the bride’s mom along with his cousin have already been starting just a little matchmaking right right here for the few months)- we hung out all night regarding the wedding and all sorts of the day that is next. He is when you look at the navy (went to the Academy) and everyday lives in Seattle (I am in Pittsburgh).

Thus I guess my questions are:

Guidance for dating a man within the military?

How can you deal as he’s away? (at the very least he’s for a sub. When he is away, he’s underwater the time that is whole. Not docking anywhere to obtain in some trouble with a few Thai hookers: p )

Any advice that is general beginning an extended distance relationship (i’ve never had one! ) in this kind of context?

He is currently produced effort that is great get things going- has called me personally everyday (also today! ) and then we’ve been emailing often. I became skeptical that possibly it absolutely was simply a great little flingy-type thing, but he is actually impressed me personally, and We definately think he’s worth every penny.

Any advice is significantly valued!

He is a ‘bubblehead’?: ) (Navy slang for the submariner. ) The service that is submarine also called the ‘silent service’ and for justification: they stay listed below and literally be one aided by the ocean. Get discovered, you die.

It certainly will depend on what sort of submarine he is on. If he is on an SSN (the fast assault ships) they are often gone for months at any given time, on missions so highly categorized which he can not (and will not) let you know any such thing about this.

If he is for an SSBN (the Trident ballistic missile submarines) the patrols are more regimented; they usually have two split crews, called Blue and Gold; whilst the Blue team is on patrol, the Gold team is ashore training, on leave, etc. SSBN patrols (‘boomers’ in Navy slang) final about 80 times.

Become interested in the Navy. Learn how to read a person that is military uniform: ranks and rates, ribbons, medals and decorations, along with other insignia. The uniform that is military towards the initiate, will say to you the ranking, product (often), honors and decorations she or he obtained, also skills.

Take serious notice of their ‘dolphins’ (the submarine qualified insignia); plenty of time and effort went into making him qualified to wear them; as he is learning how to be qualified, he gets mercilessly razzed because of the other already-qualified dolphin wearers.

Show patience; if he is on patrol, he might never be in a position to respond to emails. I do not know when they nevertheless deliver ‘familygrams’, (brief messages delivered to the submarine by friends and family) but subs nowadays can grab and deliver email whenever functional requirements dictate.

Hope this can help.

Focus on AlphaSigOU, Dani, he understands their isht!

(Although I would personally have most likely rephrased “get found, you die” only a little differently!; ) )

Yep, he is a “bubblehead”. He is additionally a “nuc” (slang that KillarneyRose explained). Works on a submarine that is nuclear can not actually tell me any such thing specific which they do. He went to “nuc college” after completing in the Academy. We now haven’t actually talked especially as to what degree of interaction he has got as he’s away from the sub. But I do not think it is much.

Does anybody understand of any websites that are good fundamental navy information on it? Cliff records to navy stuff: p

Many thanks plenty for the advice, AlphaSigOU!

But do not send really individual material on household grms or e-mail, it’s not personal at all in which he should be teased unmercifully over mushy individual material: )

Personally I think your pain my boyfriend is trying to get the NUPOC system, therefore summer that is next may be away a great deal
